TAMIU receives 120 million dollars from investors. As of the year 2015, TAMIU spent only 112 of those 120 million. With these 8 million dollars left over, TAMIU spent 2 million dollars on various expenses, while only 50,000 dollars went to proposals.
A cost analysis for our proposal suggests that we will need $10,000 for every battery installed into each solar panel (x1 batteries per building) (x10 buildings) totaling to an amount of $100,000. Solar panels cost an estimated amount of $500 per panel per building (x15 panels per building) (x10 buildings) totaling to an amount of $75,000. Additionally, labor costs $40,000 (x10 buildings) equaling to $400,000. So, the battery total of $100,000, the solar panel amount of $75,000, and the labor amount of $400,000 would equal the amount of $575,000 total invested into a solar panel system.
In the long run, this solar panel system will save thousands of dollars’ worth of electricity bills. Another university that implemented solar panels saved an estimated amount of 2 million dollars annually for their city. The money saved from electricity bills can then be used for other expenses, such as educational programs, parking lots, access roads, student living, and other potential proposals. In addition, solar panels would bring modernity, prestige, and self-promotion to TAMIU and Laredo. This would bring the University recognition amongst other universities who currently promote a more contemporary, environmentally friendly opt for conserving energy.
Overall cost: Approximately $500-600,000 dollars.
